What are we up to?

As we speak Eric and I are writing the Ocean's 11 spoof which we hope will achieve approval for performance in the Cabaret Boheme show Viva La Naughty which will be playing at Club Congress on July 26th.

Tonight we hold auditions for "The Doctor Will See You Now," a comedy sketch which I wrote with much assistance from Eric. We actually have the whole thing cast except for the Doctor. I have a good feeling about tonight's auditions though.

Other than that we have The Little Pink Dress Project which is working toward opening a one-stop walk-in center for Street Prostitutes looking to get out of the life. We have a place in mind on South 6th in the City of South Tucson. Right now it just looks like an old motel, 3/4 unoccupied. So before we do much of anything we have to apply for non-profit status.
Little Pink Dress Project

Speaking of non-profit status, that is also something we want to look into for Cabaret Boheme. We raise funds for other groups as well as do community outreach and provide free acting classes to the public.

And I am teaching acting for tots this summer at the ArtCulture Partnership. Eric begins his documentary classes in July. It's tricky because we need to recruit people from South Park Ave Neighborhood. I think I have one lead so far, Xochitl has one, and we have one returning student from previous recruitment efforts.

I am trying to remain positive and energetic in my work at the Public Library. It's been really hard to get out of bed in the morning since my mom died last year. Sometimes it's discouraging how difficult it can be to get people involved in programs at the library or just checking out books. I do think that I have reached an end crisis point for the time being and I am going to make things fun for myself at work. I have started a book club for kids and I wrote up a few grant proposals.

Ashley Spatula and I are working with her partner Chris and my partner Eric to put together a big outsider art show in the fall. I guarantee it is going to be a great show and a great opening party.

And Solar Culture is having an open call. I think all of us should go down there and hang our stuff.

SUMMER IS HERE! We are going to travel and explore. Guess what? I graduate in July. I will have my BA in Cultural Studies!

Ok, no more devolution into chatter. More later.

Life is a Cabaret

Sofia and I just finished the rough draft of the oceans 11 spoof...and we ran through it in acting class. Sounds pretty good, but there's a great deal of editing left. The July show looks like it'll be a good one...

On other notes, we're turning the Little Pink Dress Project into a non-profit, so people can buy art and give money to the cause with a tax benefit, and we can legally host a bar at special events, etc. I'm not sure how it all works yet. The goal eventually is to open a free health clinic near A Mountain (which evidently is just a mountain simply because it has an identifiable peak), catering specifically (but not limited) to sex workers. I thought it was a really cool idea, and there's a lot of need for education and health care in that area...as long as we're on topic, you can contact either Sofia or I to buy a dress form to decorate for the event this fall. The dress forms cost about $30, and we'd be willing to ship if you don't live in the area (provided you pay for shipping).
Anway we'll keep you posted on the event details as they emerge...

Hello everyone

Ok. This is my first entry. And I'm not really sure if anyone will ever read that post title, but that's the nature of blogging I guess. I'm living in Tucson as a photographer, stagehand and cabaret performer. Things have been moving kind of slowly for me so far, but I've been pretty busy with things. Just recently I've been putting myself out there a bit more, and working a little harder at what I want to do, which is photography. So we'll see...or at least I will.
